Lakeland, Florida Implements EnBiorganic Performance Trial to Address FOG (Fats, Oils & Grease) and Odor

Installation of EnBiorganic Technologies autonomous bio-augmentation technology begins in wastewater collection system served by Lakeland’s Northside Wastewater Reclamation Facility to address multiple operational issues and residential concerns

Lakeland, Florida– EnBiorganic Technologies (EBT), innovator and provider of turn-key autonomous systems for the natural, biological treatment of wastewater in conjunction with its licensed installer, Engineered Sustainable Solutions (ESS) of Lakeland, FL has completed the installation of an EBS-Di unit at a liftstation in the Fountainview Estates area of the City of Lakeland, Florida. This portion of the community’s wastewater collection system feeds to Lakeland’s Northside Wastewater Reclamation Facility.

Rick Ruede, Manager of Wastewater Collections for the City of Lakeland wished to conduct an independent study of autonomous bio-augmentation technologies to compare effectiveness at its Northside facility against its sister Southside facility which is currently utilizing a different pre-treatment method. The utility wished to see if ongoing FOG (Fats/Oils/Grease) build-up and odor issues at lift stations in the system could be more effectively and rapidly mitigated or eliminated by EnBiorganic’s EBS- Di technology. Results from other performance trials demonstrated the technology delivered added benefits of aeration and sludge reduction thus lowering of energy costs which made the decision to test it even more enticing for Ruede. Lakeland opted to take advantage of a risk-free 60-day performance trial of the technology and monitor the results.

The unit was installed at a lift station in a residential subdivision 3 miles from the treatment plant’s headworks. This location was determined by Lakeland and EnBiorganic’s technical team as the most favorable location to achieve the desired results. The Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WWRF) has a liquid treatment capacity of 8.0 MGD with a solids treatment capacity of 6.2 MGD, utilizing an Activated Sludge System or “Carousel Process.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Lakeland and tracking the positive changes we are starting to see happening in the system since the start of the trial. The ability to test and study the effects of ground-breaking methods like the EBS-Di to improve treatment efficiency, collection system health and community impact is so beneficial” shares Jim Collier, President of Engineered Sustainable Solutions, “both EnBiorganic and ESS are confident that at the conclusion of the performance trial they will realize not just the odor elimination and FOG reduction desired but many other operational benefits and cost savings as well.”

Communities in the South interested in learning more about the application of the EBS-Di technology and arranging for their own performance trial should contact EnBiorganic Authorized Service Provider, Engineered Sustainable Solutions (ESS) at 863.577.4821.
