The Root Cause of Unhealthy Lakes

Lakes can become unhealthy for a variety of reasons, most commonly from pollution and/or excess nutrients

Pollution can come from any number of sources, including runoff from agricultural practices, industrial waste, and sewage. 

Excess nutrients, also called eutrophication, usually refers to Phosphorus and Nitrogen, often from fertilizers. This can cause algae growth in water bodies, leading to algae blooms that can deplete oxygen in the water, block sunlight for aquatic plants, and even create areas where aquatic life can’t survive. Sometimes, we even see harmful algae blooms (HAB) that produce toxins that harm both human and aquatic life.

We were thrilled to work with the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, located in Sands Point, New York, on their Pond Revitalization Project. They were struggling with algae, leading to dark, murky water. 

So, they reached out to Spadefoot Design and Construction, a habitat restoration firm and EnBiorganic Technologies distribution partner, to get to the root of their challenges. Spadefoot worked with us to set up the EBS-Di system to address nutrient imbalances, algae, and sediments.
